Hattitude! | Community Spirit
Title (Max 100 Characters)
Several Family Service of Greater Baton Rouge support groups have contributed their creative efforts, in support of the Hattitude Project for HIV Awareness. The Women's Support Group, made up of HIV + women clients, and the Red Ribbon Group, for HIV+ youth, decorate festive hats during their June meetings. These hats will be on display at the Manship Theater on Wednesday June 27, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. for a month, to help the Baton Rouge community gain a more personal understanding of how this epidemic affects the lives of infected individuals. Baton Rouge is currently #1 in the nation, per capita, for new diagnoses of HIV/AIDS. Each hat will be displayed with an anonymous statement by the person who created it, explaining its inspiration, Some hats honor the memory of a woman who died with the disease; others celebrate the maker's own capacity to make a good healthy life, despite HIV. Still others express gratitude for the help they receive at Family Service, and offer encouragement for others to stay well, This hat collection will continue to grow and evolve, reminding us of the strength and vulnerability of our community.
