BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB)- A
21-year-old woman faces hit and run charges in a deadly crash involving a
cyclist.
The
Louisiana State Police said Jodie Hoseth of Holden is suspected of hitting
Eddie Arinder, 50, of Baton Rouge while he was riding his bicycle on July 7.
After a
four-week investigation, she was arrested on Aug. 3 and charged with felony hit
and run.
The wreck
happened on Old Hammond Highway (LA 426) west of Florida Boulevard (US 190) a
little before midnight.
Troopers
said Arinder was badly injured and taken to Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans,
where he later died.
Investigators
determined the vehicle that hit Arinder and drove off was a 2006-2011 Ford
Ranger.
They said
additional clues eventually led them to Hoseth and on July 12 they found a 2006
Ford Ranger at her home that had damage consistent with hitting a bicycle.
LSP said
detectives obtained a search warrant for the pickup on July 16 and positively
identified it as the vehicle involved in the hit and run that claimed Arinder's
life.
Authorities
said surveillance video from a gas station less than two miles from where the
crash happened helped them determine Hoseth was driving the truck shortly after
the crash.
Troopers
reported obtaining the footage on July 20.
They then
obtained an arrest warrant for her.
Hoseth was
booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the hit and run charge.
Bond
information was not released.
