It's time for "Santa CAAWS" Pet Photos a

It is time for Santa CAAWS!

CAAWS Pet Photos with Santa is one of CAAWS' only fundraisers. It's goal is to help raise money for our Community Outreach Spay/Neuter Programs which helps pet owners in our community get their pets spayed and neutered when they cannot afford the cost.

The event will be held at Harley Davidson of Baton Rouge on Siegen Lane on November 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  This is the 19th year for our fundraiser and we hope to see old and new faces alike. Bring your animals, kids, family. You can pose with or without Santa so this can be your family Holiday Card. Affordable packages will be offered including Holiday Cards which are very reasonable and they will be mailed directly to you.

Jones Creek library hosting CAAWS Pet Adoption Day

The Jones Creek Library located at 6222 Jones Creek will be hosting an Adoption Day Event for the Capital Area Animal Welfare Society (CAAWS) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday July 28. There will be cats and dogs at the adoption event so bring the family and come out to adopt a pet or just to meet our animals.

CAAWS is a no-kill shelter we are 100% non-profit, 100% volunteer organization, no one in our organization gets a paycheck. All money donated goes to caring for our animals or directly back into the community through our spay/neuter outreach programs. 

We would like to thank our community for the support you have shown us over the past 33 years and would like to continue to save animals for 33 more. We hope to see you at our adoption event and we hope to place some of our animals in loving homes. Cupcake Shoppe hosting Yelp! BR Adoption event

Sweet Wishes Gourmet Cupcake Shoppe is hosting an adoption event for Yelp! Baton Rouge on Friday, June 29 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 10889 Perkins Road in Baton Rouge.  Taco de Paco will also be there.

Yelp, a non-profit dog rescue in Baton Rouge, started in 2009 in order to reduce the rate of euthanasia at the East Baton Rouge Animal Shelter.  Yelp is funded by private donations and adoption fees.  Dogs available for adoption at the Yelp house are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and micro-chipped.

Harley-Davidson hosting dog fashion show

Harley-Davidson of Baton Rouge, located at 5853 Siegen Lane, will be hosting a dog fashion show to benefit local non-profit Spay Baton Rouge. Dubbed the “Harleywood K-9 Fashion Event” it will be held Saturday, July 21, from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. and will include Hollywood flair. Registration will be from 11 a.m. to noon and the fashion show will run noon to 1 p.m.

Open to the public, dog owners are invited to enter their dressed up pet and accompany them down the red carpet. Contestants will have the opportunity to win a “Pawscar” in three categories and have their picture taken by the “puparazzi.” Celebrity judges will be Murphy, Sam and Jodi of 96.1 the River, and host Michael Hackett—owner of Petz Plaza—will serve as emcee. Attendees will be treated to food provided by Izzo’s Illegal Burrito and all dogs will leave with a swag bag of treats.

“We are thankful for Harley-Davidson hosting the dog fashion show, as well as Murphy, Sam and Jodi, and Michael Hackett giving of their time,” says Executive Director Sandra DiTusa. “The event, designed for people and their dogs to have fun, will also allow us to raise awareness of what we are about.”

Companion Animal Alliance director will speak at Rotary Wednesday

Companion Animal Alliance director will speak at Rotary Wednesday

Kimberly Sherlaw, the executive director of Companion Animal Alliance of Baton Rouge, will speak to the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge on Wednesday, June 20 at noon at Boudreaux's, 2647 Government Street, in Baton Rouge.

A native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Kimberly first left the Great Lakes State to attend Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana where she earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology. With a keen interest in human service organizations and community development, she returned to Ann Arbor to complete her graduate studies in social work at the University of Michigan. Soon after Kimberly moved to Norfolk, Virginia where began her 17 year career in nonprofit management. While in Virginia, Kimberly held leadership roles with several nonprofits including the Virginia Zoological Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Hampton Roads and The Governor’s School for the Arts Foundation. 

Kimberly most recently was employed as the director of the Bermuda Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and prior to that served as the executive director of the Norfolk (Virginia) Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
